Dateline- Clinton, S.C. Lt. Colonel Retired Rawlinson E. (Smilie) Martin, Sr. Lt. Colonel Retired Rawlinson E. (Smilie) Martin, Sr. age 88, of 206 Calvert Avenue died Friday, May 4, 2012 at his home. He was born in Columbia, SC and was the son of the late Rev. Louis Key and Ella Mae McFadden Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton, a Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a graduate of Presbyterian College and a member of Phi Kappa Phi. He served 34 years in School District 56 and loved his students. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the 822 Military Police Company. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 56 and the Mountville Grange #632. He is survived by his wife, Roslyn Cason Martin and daughter, Roslyn Cason Martin, both of the home; a son, Rawlinson Earl (Buddy) Martin, Jr. of Carnesville, GA; and four grandchildren, Jeremy D. Martin, Caleb A. Brock, Mariah N. Martin and Allison M. Martin. Mr. Martin was predeceased by two sons, Eugene Cason Martin and David Key Martin; and a brother, Louis Key Martin, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Clinton with burial in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Clinton, P.O.
