Sympathy to Coach Melvin Bouknight family
Former Coach from Clinton Melvin Bouknight went on to be with the Lord this morning.
Melvin D. Bouknight, 67, of 369 Fairway Dr., Newberry, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in Newberry on June 17, 1942, the son of the late Lillian Hendrix and W. Carmin Bouknight.
He was a retired coach and school administrator. He coached numerous sports at Woodruff High School, Newberry High School, Barnwell High School, Clinton High School, Saluda High School and Lexington High School and was an administrator at Ruben Elementary School and Bush River Elementary School in Newberry County, Barnwell High School, Saluda High School, and Clover High School. He made very positive impact on the youth that he came into contact with while coaching and working in the school system.
He was a member of Central United Methodist church where he was very active while his health permitted and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the S.C. Coaches Assn., Secondary Principals Assn, The Newberry College Indian Club, the Bulldog Booster Club, and was a former member of the Newberry Rotary Club.
He is survived by wife of 46 years, Lillian McCutcheon Bouknight; 2 daughters and a son-in-law, English A. Boozer of Newberry and Missy B. and Scot Burnett of Lexington; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Bridget Bouknight of Silverstreet and Mel and Ashley Bouknight of Chandler, AZ; a sister Sylvia B. Holmes of Newberry; 11 grandchildren, Korey Ahrens, Brandon Ahrens, Drew Ahrens, Cole Boozer, Katie Burnett, Reece Burnett, Grey Burnett, Taylor Bouknight, Kruz Bouknight, Kai Bouknight, and Harper Bouknight and special friends, Charles “Pop” and Miss Ethel Whitener.
Funeral services will be conducted at.1:00 PM Tuesday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Karen Radcliffe and the Rev. John Miller. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
